1. Cut out colas and other high calorie drinks

This may not be easy if you normally drink a lot of soft, sweet drinks. But you have to cut them out. Don't opt for the low sugar variety, because the artificial sweeteners in them tend to make you crave sweet foods and your weight loss quest could become more difficult.

Instead of taking drinks of cola, drink water instead. You don't have to buy expensive bottled water - tap water left in an open container in your refrigerator overnight is just as good. First thing in the morning, and before each meal, drink a glass of water - more if the weather is hot. This will make your body feel fuller and crave food less. It will also assist in proper digestion of food and flushing of fats from your system, thereby boosting your health and "feel good" factor.

After a few days, drink a glass of cola again. You'll notice how sickly it tastes, and may never want to drink it any more.

2. Avoid all fried foods and red meat

Fried foods are invariably high in fat content and calories. You have to cut these out if you are to lose weight quickly. There are plenty of other ways to cook your food - roasting, basting, baking, grilling and boiling, to name just a few. Try keeping to fish, chicken or lean meats, and having smaller portions. If you are eating out, avoid the excessively large portions provided by default in many restaurants. If necessary, ask for a child's portion. Avoid take away foods at all costs.

Always start with soup or a salad. The soup must be water based, not cream or milk. Minestrone, vegetable or tomato is ideal. The salad must contain plenty of roughage and dark greens such as spinach. You can top it with vinegar (which helps your body deal with fat) or a low-calorie dressing.

3. Start walking or running

This part depends on how much exercise - how much walking or even running you do already. If you are much overweight the chances are that you don't do any running, and only a little, if any, walking.

But any exercise is better than none at all. If you don't normally walk much, start taking a 10 to 20 minute walk each day. This doesn't sound much but it can make a real difference to your weight if you normally don't walk at all. If you can, make it 30 minutes, but you may wish to take a little time before you get to that stage.

If you normally do a fair amount of walking anyway, then try a little running. Start with a distance and pace well within your capacity, and if you have any health issues at all take medical advice first.

Whether you run or walk, your body will adjust itself and its weight to cope with the additional demands being placed on it. You can expect to see results quickly, provided you don't skip any day's exercise and keep to the routine. They say "no gain without pain". Well, the pain doesn't have to be excessive, and yet the gain can be considerable.

The fitness world has officially gone kettlebell crazy. Unfortunately many people still fail to understand why kettlebells should be a key tool in your fitness toolbox for getting excellent fat loss results, increasing strength, reducing the risk of injury and making your training much more exciting!

There are numerous reasons why you simply have to include kettlebells in your training to break through plateaus in your results.

Location, location, location:

You can use kettlebells anywhere, anytime.

Kettlebells have been described as 'a gym in the palm of your hand' - a short but highly accurate statement! Not only are they versatile in that they can be thrown in the back of the car and used to train in the park, in hotel rooms, in your back garden, in your friend's back garden, on the beach, the list goes on. Basically, if you have an area of around 2m x 2m and a height of 7-10 ft depending how tall you are, you can train with kettlebells.

This makes kettlebells the ideal tool for many people from all walks of life including:

Those who are sick of training in commercial gyms, full of members who don't really care and managers who care even less.

Those who need a portable training tool which gets results. This includes business people, soldiers and anyone whose lifestyle isn't conducive to regular visits to the local health centre. No gimmicks, no magic machines, just a proven method which gets results fast.

Variety:

Aside from versatility of location, possibly the most widely talked about and most captivating element of kettlebell training is the versatility of training.

Let's face it. No matter how committed you are to fitness and exercise as the cornerstone of your life, it can get boring if you have no variety in your training.

I have never, ever trained in such a way which enables so many muscles to be worked in such a variety of directions with more advanced trainees being able to move smoothly from one exercise to the next with deft movements of the bell.

This enables the trainee to complete strength and cardiovascular training all in one go.

It is true that if you want to be a powerlifter or bodybuilder you need to be working with super heavy weights with sufficient rest times in between. However, the trainee who wishes to be achieve a more complete fitness profile by increasing strength, shedding body fat, improving flexibility and building a powerful heart and cardiovascular system will not find a better way to achieve their goals.

The nature of kettlebells means if you have a big enough set, you can be training anaerobic endurance one day, strength the next, power the next and power endurance the next. Exercises are easily manipulated to suit whatever fitness goal you may have.

Optimising the physical capabilities:

Crucially the kettlebell is the single most effective way to learn how to use your body as one, solid, interlinked, inseparable chain of muscles and joints. It is accepted that free weights are galaxies ahead of fixed machines for functional training which is applicable to activities in daily life and on the sports field, but kettlebell training takes this to a whole new level.

The challenge to the core muscles is great enabling the trainee to build a very solid base from which to work with more advanced exercises. I once heard it said that 'you can't fire a cannon from a canoe'. In other words, no matter how strong or powerful you think your legs or arms are, if you have a weak, dysfunctional core, you will never achieve the true potential of your limbs. You must have a strong foundation on which to develop powerful, functional muscles.

Not only this but due to the unique way in which the centre of mass of a kettlebell sits, such training is also a huge challenge to the smaller muscles around the body which primarily act to stabilize our joints. In particular, the shoulders become rock solid after a few months of kettlebell training providing great benefits to those involved in racket sports, boxing or martial arts or who perform regular weight training of any kind and are struggling to increase their bench or military press numbers.

I have first hand experience of the power of kettlebells in a rehab setting. After a year of advancing through the stages of kettlebell training to the more advanced exercises, I suffered a partially dislocated shoulder in a cycling accident. I believe that it is down to the kettlebell training that I was able to press a 28kg kettlebell within 5 weeks of the accident. This was achieved by first working with the light kettlebells in drills such as the windmill, 'walking in the wind' and the get up.

Body composition:

The average person exercises to maintain or achieve low body fat. Even if they don't, it's always a nice bonus as a side effect of your training!

It has been proven that the most effective way to reduce body fat whilst maintaining muscle (after sound nutrition), is a combination of metabolic weight training and high intensity intervals.

Kettlebell training enables both methods to be achieved at once, enabling the busy person to gain maximum effect from their training in minimum time. What more do you want?!

Not only do body fat levels drop like a stone (when combined with effective nutrition) but the full body movements involved in kettlebell training will produce a great body shape. You can expect to gain a lean, toned physique. Ladies, a tight backside, tight thighs and a slim, toned upper body will soon be on its way! Gents you can expect to develop a strong, lean, muscular physique once you have harnessed the power of kettlebells!

I've yet to experience a method of training which develops mental strength as well as physical ability like kettlebells do. I can't say I've ever studied or practiced martial arts but I suspect it is a similar way of life which captivates you and creates steely willpower and physical prowess beyond anything you've experienced before.

Posture:

A word should also be given to the effects on posture. Because the key kettlebell exercises demand a lot of work to be done by your posterior chain (the muscles on the back of your body such as glutes, lower back and hamstrings) as well as the core muscles, you will soon notice big differences in the way you stand. Because of the way we sit at our desks all day hunched over a keyboard, and the usual focus in the gym on the 'beach muscles' such as the chest, arms, abs and quads, our bodies become very 'front dominant'.

Typical desk posture results in tight chest, tight hip flexors and tight hamstrings which more often than not lead to lower back pain directly or indirectly.

The use of the kettlebell swings and snatches helps address this by strengthening the previously weak glute (buttock) and lower back muscles. Ensuring there is enough protein in your diet is not as difficult as it sounds. Even without using animal products it is not hard, and if you allow dairy products into your diet it is even easier. But it is worth repeating animal products are not required in your diet to have enough protein. First here are some guidelines as to how much protein we really need in our diets. In 2002, the National Academy of Sciences published a 'Dietary Reference Intake'. It included everything from fiber to fatty acids. For protein they recommend that an optimal range of protein is 10 to 35 percent of calories (On a 2,000 calorie diet this would be 50 to 175 grams of protein). In everyday terms this means that adult women need at 46 grams of protein daily and adult men need at least 56 grams of protein daily (very active and elderly people may need more).

As you can see getting enough protein should be an issue for even the pickiest eater. So now review the meal plans you developed before and modify them to ensure your protein amounts are what you want them to be.

Maintaining the proper caloric level in your meal plans is perhaps the easiest of all. You need to review the meal plans you developed thus far with an eye towards the calorie levels each day. If your calorie counts are too high either substitute foods (i.e. spinach for lettuce) or reduce the added fats from oils & margarine. Once your calorie levels are good, your vegetarian meal plans are ready to go.

HCG Diet - Weight Loss Cure, How and When to Cheat, Intentionally Or Accidentally

What do you do, if you just have to have something extra to eat? It is always best to stick to the HCG Diet exactly, if you can. But if you must cheat, some ways are better than others. I've done the diet three times and learned a few things.

1) First of all, try not to eat anything with sugar or starch. Sugar stimulates insulin and insulin turns it into fat. In "Pounds and Inches," Dr. Simeons cautions against eating sugar or starch during the three weeks just after doing the Hcg Diet. It's a big no-no during the diet, too. If you are wanting something extra to eat, you might be tempted by a donut someone brought into work, some chocolate, etc. But, read on and I have some suggestions.

2) Second, try to stay within the diet by eating something that is on it. I'll explain more in a second. Also, there are a few other foods you may not know about that are included at some Hcg Diet clinics.

3) Third, if you do cheat, try to pay attention to how whatever you eat satisfies. How do you feel after? (This is so you can be more prepared for the next time.) It is really good if you keep a food diary of just what you eat and how you are feeling. It is one of the best things you can do, so you can check your progress. You want to be able to look back and figure out what you did right on those days that you lost more than a pound a day and when you only lost half a pound. Sometimes it is really hard to figure out.

4) If you decide you must eat something totally not on the diet, you will be in effect doing a "loading day." (I don't recommend this!) I have done it, but it means it will be at least three days before you start losing weight again. If you must do this, then save it for a very special event and try not to do it more than once during your 23 or 40 days. This is intentional and planned and best of all you can tell yourself you are taking a day off or doing a loading day. It also works if you are in a stall or plateau.

5) Consider how much going off the diet will be costing you. Add up the costs for the diet plan, the hcg, the syringes, the alcohol wipes, the bottles of sterile water, shipping costs, etc., and divide the cost by 23 or 40 days and then multiply by 3 days and you will know what it costs you financially. If you go to a clinic or doctor, there is that cost, too.

6) Then there is the psychological cost. If you have to wait 3 days to see a new weight loss, it is very discouraging. Generally, if you eat anything not on the very specific diet, you will gain the next day. You'll lose the second, but it isn't until the third that you make new headway.

7) If you are set on having a candy bar, stop and think. Could you substitute a piece of watermelon? It would beat having a chocolate bar! And it can be quite satisfying. For those who are staying strictly on the Dr. Simeons diet, don't listen to this. It's just that I found out watermelon was allowed by a few Hcg Diet clinics. Also a few more fruits and vegetables.

8) One other thing that worked for me, when I felt hungry between meals. I would roll a bite or two of left over chicken into a leaf of lettuce like a sandwich and it made a good snack. Then I would cut back on the amount of meat (chicken, fish, etc.) at the next meal.

More hints: you may find some fat free, sugar free marinades and salad dressings. I like a fat free, sugar free dressing called Maple Grove Farms Raspberry Vinaigrette, that I get at Wal-Mart.

You can make yourself an iced coffee with Stevia. It's not quite like Starbucks, but you can try that. Also you may like to take your handful of strawberries and make a smoothie to drink. Just add water, ice and Stevia in your blender. You won't even be cheating!

9) To stay on the diet, I found that eating a sliced tomato or cucumber with salt and pepper between meals really helped to keep me going and on target with the next meal. You can even broil the tomato in the oven or toaster oven with some spices. I'm not sure why it was so satisfying. It is on the diet, and the few (fat free, sugar free) calories didn't seem to hinder my losing weight.

10) One last thing. When I got sick and tired of chicken or fish, occasionally I had a scrambled egg or hard boiled egg. Dr Simeons mentions in his manuscript, "Pounds and Inches, " about eggs for those who are vegetarians. I still kept losing just the same. I cooked the scrambled egg in a little water in a non-stick pan.

If you have read my other articles, then you know how I accidentally learned about eating salads, with more than one vegetable at a meal. I misunderstood and ate salads every single day and still lost weight really fast.

Remember that when you are taking Hcg, if you eat any calories over the 500 a day, that you will gain. It is the nature of Hcg. It only works to help you lose fat when you do the very low calorie diet, called VLCD. There is a great website that helps you calculate your calories, fat, proteins, etc. called fitday.com

HCG Diet - What Can I Expect If I Try It?

The HCG Diet is popular, but expect to hear lots of pros and cons from your family, friends and co-workers about the new Weight Loss Cure. First of all, they won't understand it. Second, they will tell you to just eat less and exercise. They will be worried about your new diet and you, so they show their caring by being critical of something they don't understand.

What people first hear about the Hcg diet are the words hormones and injections. That may sound scary, until you understand you don't have to do injections. And the hormone is natural to the body. You take such a small amount, that men can do this diet, as well as women.

I find it best not to tell anyone just what kind of diet you are doing until the results become noticeable. By then, you will be so encouraged and excited about your weight loss and new stunning body, you won't care about any of the critics. By then you will have more energy and feel better, too. It's so fun to lose 1-2 pounds a day!

What is the alternative? You can try any diet and exercise program and lose a little weight. But will it stay off? You can have gastric bypass surgery or the new lapband. Or you can do Hcg and surprise your friends into thinking you had some kind of amazing liposuction! Just let them think you are doing it by diet and exercise!

What are the benefits? Well, Dr Simeons wrote a book called Pounds and Inches for other doctors and he says that HCG causes a change in metabolism. He says it makes your body mobilize fat out of the fat storage locations. Weight loss comes from adipose tissue, not muscle. And Hcg does not strip the body of vitamins and minerals. When I first started I had a big salad of all the vegetables allowed and it wasn't until 2-3 weeks later when I had lost over 20 pounds that I found out you weren't supposed to do that. Well, by then I knew it worked for me and I continued eating big salads every day. I lost about 1-2 pounds a day and I think all the fiber helped. And the salads helped my sanity.

What can you expect? You will lose fast mostly in the waist and stomach. You'll reduce any fat pads like a double chin and love handles. You'll lose that inner knee and thigh fat with no sagging skin. The diet actually helps you do body contouring without exercise.

And there's a bonus to doing the Weight Loss Cure that Dr. Simeons mentions. Do you know Hcg helps things like arthritis, fibromyalgia and other aches and pains? I had some sore hips following a long time regime of taking prednisone for asthma. I had to sleep on pillows and tossed and turned. Then a few months ago I realized my hips don't hurt anymore.
