By John Davenport Platinum Quality Author

The Raw Food diet isn't just one specific program which bears this name but is a general name for an entire eating concept which advocates eating food in its most natural form. Usually, this also means a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle so no meat is to be included in your diet.

There is no doubt that the food we eat today is very different from its natural forms. Our food is filled with chemicals, a lot of it is industrialized, our livestock is given antibiotics and hormones, the list goes on. People who believe in raw food dieting state that the quality of our food is diminishing, that we're just not getting what we need and that we need to get back to basics to make sure we're getting all the nutrients we need to lose weight, be energetic, and stay healthy.

Millions of people use the raw food diet in one form or another. Many claim that it has helped them tremendously in many aspects of life. However, this is not a program that everyone can use. It's far from perfect and there are both pros and cons that you should be aware of before you begin eating according to the this diet.

Here are some pros and cons:

Pros:

- Advocates clean eating with lots of fruits and vegetables

- Recommends not eating processed and industrialized food

- Has been known to help people shed weight, become more energetic, improve health, and more

- Can be much more affordable than eating pre-made foods

Cons:

- It is often difficult to make the transition from our modern diet to raw food eating.

- Does not include meat which basically excludes a large segment of the population.

- It can be hard to stick to such a diet unless you have expert guidance. You can't just improvise.
